Review: Foundations I’ve Used

Just wanted to share my experience with foundation (it isn’t that extensive), just in case anyone is looking for some info on any of these products:

- Everyday Minerals foundation
- Estee Lauder Equalizer foundation (SPF 10) in Desert
- MAC Studio Fix Powder foundation in NC30
- MAC Studio Sculpt SPF 15 in NC25
- MAC Studio Tech in NC30

For reference:
- I have combination skin (oily-ish t-zone and sometimes dry on the cheeks or side of the nose)
- NC30 is my summer shade, and NC25 is my winter/spring shade

More details will be posted to my blog :)

    I’d suggest using …
I’d suggest using everyday minerals’ flat top brush. It’s extremely soft and works very well with mineral foundation. Just search anywhere, their flat top brush is a favorite of everyone! Of coz, including me. =) I have mac 187 too but I have to say it’s not a good brush for loose powder. If you have dry skin, try their original glo formula. Use semi-matte for combination skin.

Hmmm I’m not sure I can answer that question because I used to use it off and on. Once in a while I rediscover a foundation and then I love it and use it everyday for a few months, but then I find something else I’d neglected and switch to that LOL…I’m sorry I can’t help you with your question! :(

    That’s a good idea …
That’s a good idea about wearing every few days!! But it seems like if there’s something my skin doesn’t like about the foundation, it’s probably best to stay away from it altogether if I can :) I’ve found Studio Tech to be great for my combination skin (oily nose and forehead), but keep in mind I also use a setting powder with this foundation to make it stay matte :)

    The sample was free …
The sample was free! I believe you can ask for samples in any MAC store (which is something not a lot of people know about I think…) I definitely recommend getting a sample of foundation if you can, because it’s super important to know how you skin will react to the product. Plus, they’re not cheap and they come in large quantities, so you really want to be sure before you buy!! ^^

    Good tips for …
Good tips for application!! But ya…I think I’ve pretty much given up on buying foundation online. Best to try it on in the store and for a few days (if a sample is available)!

How long did the studio tech last you [[like all the makeup overall]] if you use it daily??

If you break out with Studio Sculpt you can wear it every third day or so and still enjoy it without giving it a chance to break you out.
I’m so happy you did a review on the Studio Tech because I’ve always wondered and now I’m going to try it. I always thought it would be too creamy for my oily t-zone but it worked for you so I hope it works for me too.

i wanted to try the studio sculpt too but i wanted to see if it broke me out first… was the sample free?

    I know when I used …
I know when I used the everyday minerals samples, I would just tap the product directly onto my flat top brush (from edm too) and then just buff it on my face, My problem was the colouring too, it was hard to find the right one, and I went through like 7-8 sample kits.

  12. ericaleung13 says:

    Yay!! Another …
Yay!! Another Studio Tech lover :D Yes, I find a lot of people use Studio Fix (liquid or powder) from MAC.

Thanks for the tip about the BB Creams…I was thinking about trying them, but I think I’m very happy with the Studio Tech, so I’ll probably buy a new one when mine runs out (it’s gonna be really soon!)

  13. ericaleung13 says:

    I personally found …
I personally found Studio Sculpt to get oily faster, since it is meant to have a “dewy finish” as opposed to the matte finish of Studio Tech. Also, the gel-like consistency makes it closer to a liquid foundation, which tends to get oily faster (in my experience).

I have found that photos come out great with S.Tech because there is no flashback (no SPF coverage though). With Studio Sculpt, there is a bit of flashback because of the SPF content, but it isn’t as severe as the Estee Lauder one :)

    My favorite is also …
My favorite is also Studio Tech from MAC. Not a lot of people use it compared to other MAC foundations.

I have also tried several BB Creams. The problem with them is that they will leave your skin feeling/looking shiny/oily, even if you set with powder.

I was exactly the same!! Until I learned about how some foundations reflect light (especially some SPF ones)…the pictures that I was wearing that foundation in came out very very unfortunate. LOL

    Hi there!! A couple …
Hi there!! A couple things for you…do you wash your face well and use a good moisturizer before applying makeup to your face? Moisturizing is very important (yes, even if you have oil-prone skin!). Also try a primer or an oil-control base to help you avoid “melting” foundation. Another important thing is to set your foundation with a powder or a spray to make sure it stays put throughout the day! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions :)
